2010 Ryder Cup - Blue Tee Wannabe's vs. The Sod Busters

Here are the details:

Welcome to the Fifth annual Ryder Cup style competition between the Blue Tee Wannabe's (Monday Nights at Chaska) and The Sod Busters (Tuesday Nights at Eagle Creek). The date is set for Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 8:30AM at Mascoutin course in Berlin. Check here to check out their website.
  • It will be $60.00 for golf which includes cart and golf for 27 holes.
  • We will have 7 Groups in the competition.
  • Some Handicaps will be used in all matches this year. Our LeagueChief software calculates handicaps based on our home course/tee we play each week. More importantly, it also calculates Indexes for each player, and based on this Index, we can arrive at consistent handicaps based on a slope. NOTE: It does not matter that some players play white, and some blue in their own leagues. The Index is what gets us all to a common number for the handicap calculation out at Mascoutin. ** Also, note that the calculations were made consistent between the 2 golf leagues to take the "Last 5 rolling Scores", and a "Triple Bogey" is the most that was used in the calculations. Even though The SodBusters were using "Best 4 of last 5", and Equitable Stroke Control in the league, the report was run the same between the leagues.
  • Like last year, each of the teams/matches won't be determined based on the sorting of the indexes. It will be up to the Captains to put together the 2-man teams and matches. This makes for some good strategy.
  • No meals are planned; you can eat at the turn and/or after during the awarding of the travelling trophy.
  • Hopefully all of the guys on the teams have at least one golf shirt in their closet of the right color. For some team spirit, the guys on the Blue team will wear blue golf shirts and the guys on the Red team will wear Red golf shirts.
  • We'll have a skins game for all 2-man teams that are interested in participating. $15 per man gets you in. $10 of that goes into the 2 man "team" nines and $5 goes into the last 9 for individual play. Get the Money to Paul DeLange before we all start.
Note: If you sign up, you have to be committed. We're counting on you to be there! Let Brian Long 740-1219(c), Andy Wittig 636-6770(c) or Paul DeLange 857-8655(c) know ASAP if something comes up and you can't play. Let's all check in between 7:45 and 8:00 so we can make sure we're all on the same page with how the format works. Pow-wow at the practice green at 8:15 for skins and rules. Call your Captain if you have any questions/concerns!

As for the format:

Each of the 9's will be different formats, all of which are Match Play. We will all play the White Tees. Notice how we're playing the nines in a different order this year.
  • The Blue (1st) nine will be a 2 man scramble in a match play format. 50% Handicap Accumulated Differential will be used.
  • The Red (2nd) nine will be a 2 man best ball in a match play format. 75% Handicap Accumulated Differential will be used.
  • The White (3rd) nine will be a single man match play within each group. 100% Handicaps will be used.
(Q: What is Accumulated Differential? A: Add you and your match partner's handicaps. Same with opposing team. Get a difference. Multiply by percentage to get Handicap. Round up. (i.e. 1.5 goes to 2, 1.4 goes to 1)

Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Blue nine - 1 point per 2 man team for most Match Points won, so a total of 6 points available for the entire Blue or Red Team. (i.e. if Long/Evers scramble team wins 5 holes and their opponents on the red team have 4 holes, the Blue Team takes 1 point.)
  • Red nine - Same as White nine, so a total of 6 points available for the entire Blue or Red Team. (i.e. if DeLange/Houfek's best ball team wins 6 holes and their opponents on the blue team have 3 holes, the Red team takes 1 point.)
  • White nine - 1 point for each individual match, so a total of 12 points available for the entire Blue or Red Team. (i.e. if the Long vs DeLange match results in Long winning 5 of the 4 holes in match play, Long earns a point for the Blue Team and if the Evers vs Houfek match results in a 4.5 and 4.5 tie, each of the guys earn 1/2 a point for their Blue and Red Teams.)

  • NOTE: There are a total of 28 points available for this year's Ryder Cup. 7 + 7 + 14 = 28
